Welcome to Alraqs Festival, we are an International Bellydance Festival celebrating the art of Oriental dance and Arabic culture, based in Nicosia, Cyprus.

The festival is brought to you by Alexia Nadirah who is a multi award winning bellydancer for more than 20 years now and a dedicated team of professionals. (Find out more about them further down)

This year marks our 5th edition and we are very excited!

Our festival features workshops, a spectacular gala show, a competition, a welcome party, and a vibrant bazaar with dance-related vendors.   Each year, we bring international guest master teachers to Cyprus and complete our line-up with esteemed local master teachers to teach, perform and judge.

We always try and bring to you an authentic taste of the Arabic culture and deliver an unforgettable experience for anyone that joins us!

Alexia Nadirah

Founder & Festival Director

Alexia is from Cyprus and began her dancing journey from a very early age. She focused on Oriental dance as she was guided by her innate passion for dancing to Middle Eastern rhythms and melodies. She gradually developed her very own style in dance by experimenting and learning along side many international master teachers.

For the last 15 years she has been participating in festivals both national and international, as a guest teacher, performing and as a judge in competitions.

Throughout her career she has competed herself both nationally and internationally. She has won many awards and attained 1st places standing out,  whilst being praised by Master Teachers for her vigour and style!

In more recent years she has joined festivals in Cairo and appeared repeatedly with live orchestras on stage.  She continues to travel the world and connect with artists from all over by participating in festivals.

Alexia is also a passionate teacher mentoring dancers of all ages helping them achieve their potential. She teaches workshops throughout the year all over the island and gives regular classes on a weekly basis in Nicosia.

She is an active performer in Cyprus dancing regularly at events, wedding, parties, restaurants and with TV appearances in local shows.

Her zeal for constant evolution and growth has lead her, as of 2022, to be the proud producer and organiser of her very own festival 'Alraqs Festival' where she invites international and local stars to teach, perform and judge! This festival is now established as one of the leading festivals in Cyprus and the only one taking place in Nicosia.  With much dedication she is committed to continue to contribute to the bellydance community in Cyprus and represent her art with respect and above all love!

Maria Nicolaou

Associate Festival Director / Digital Media

Maria has been in love with dance and movement since she was 4 y.o. when she began ballet lessons and has never stopped since! At 16, parallel to her ballet training, she was introduced to bellydance, and a new passion was ignited! She completed her ballet studies at 18, closing that chapter of her life, but continued feeding her passion with bellydancing and arabic rhythms.

She explored different styles during her 6 year stay in the U.K. and upon her return to Cyprus, she dived back into her lessons.

Maria, since then, has taken part in creating and organising a number of events and shows, promoting this layered undervalued art form she so loves. She has taken part in festivals and workshops through the years with many masterteachers enriching her knowledge, and one of her favourite things is to experience performers live on stage! She has never been a performer herself, nor does she consider herself a professional dancer, although she could be, but rather an eternal student of the art and culture of Bellydance.

Her career is in complementary therapies with a BsC Hons degree and many diplomas in a variety of therapeutic techniques such as massage, reflexology, aromatherapy, etc. Her line of work of almost 20 years now in working with the human body as a whole has allowed her to appreciate the importance of expression through movement and the healing properties of dance in general and particularly bellydancing especially in women.

So, when Alexia began her journey in organising this festival and asked if she would join her team she didn't want to miss a chance to help elevate and promote the bellydance community on the island further and connect Cyprus with an international audience.
